RippleClan/CrestClan border
Sat 10 Nov 2018, 2:53 pm
RippleClan and CrestClan's border is a little less defined than the other Clans', due to the shared history between them. RippleClan aren't exactly known for their tree climbing capability, but the area suits them well for hunting swampier prey, while CrestClan take advantage of the trees. There is a scent line that defines their border, however, and CrestClan cats are not able to touch the ground after this point or risk facing the wrath of a very angry RippleClan. This 'shared territory' ends at the edge of the Green Lakes, where trees become too sparse to jump between.
The area is mostly taller, mangrove-like trees, with areas of dry ground that support larger oaks and maples. There are small pools of water that sometimes house tadpoles or smaller fish, but is more often home to frogs and toads.

Rainspots's tail waved in the chilly breeze as he walked beside Dreampoppy, his ears pricked for sounds of any of the other Clans. "How've you been, Dream? I never asked."

Dreampoppy stayed silent for a moment before turning her head in the direction of Rainspots. "Mourning Autumnstar, like the rest of the clan, but I've been well. I'm happy for, and proud of, my brother." She spoke quietly, pride swelling in her chest.

Rainspots nodded too, padding along. "I... I don't know if he's right for the position," he admitted. "Loftwing is much more experienced."

Dreampoppy bristled slightly, the need to defend her brother becoming quite present. She didn't reply for a long moment, simply calming herself down first. "Autumnstar made her decision for a reason. She saw Sleekstar as the best leader to come after her," she mewed.

Rainspots nodded. "Let's just agree to disagree," he mumbled, ears pricking as he heard a tell-tale ribbit up ahead. "Frogs."

Dreampoppy's tail lashed and she simply nodded in response to Rainspots. Pushing past, she lowered herself into a crouch. Letting her nose and ears lead her, she waded into the shallow water, the ribbits from the frogs pointing her in the correct direction. Once she'd pinpointed them, she leaped, biting into one to kill it, but scaring away others. Head up, she trotted out of the water.

Rainspots purred as she returned. "I would say great, but now all the frogs know we're here."

Dreampoppy sighed and dropped the frog at her paws. "We can fish, maybe?" She tilted her head, flicking her tail impatiently.

"Sounds good. The water might freeze over tonight," Rainspots pointed out, fluffing his pelt out at the brisk wind that sent a flurry of snowflakes into their little clearing.

Dreampoppy shivered and fluffed out her fur, sniffing the air while she crept back to the edge of the water. "Make sure not to drown," she teased and waded into it, flexing her claws in reaction to the cold.

Rainspots rolled his eyes, wading into the swampy water beside her and sighing as the water protected him from the gusty wind. "So serene," he teased, then dove under and up beneath Dreampoppy's belly.

Dreampoppy squealed in surprise and batted at his head, rearing up onto her hind paws. "Rainspots, you're going to scare the fish!" She laughed despite her complaint.

"There's always plenty of fish in the river," Rainspots quoted Autumnstar, smirking a little as his tail flicked.

"Not if there's a cat prancing around like a giant." Dreampoppy grizzled at the tom and splashed water at what she hoped was his face.

Rainspots blinked a few times to let his eyes adjust to the water, feeling the current of the relatively small stream pushing against his body and with it, the movements of fish in the water. He swam up beside Dreampoppy, nudging her gently to let her know what they were going to do.

Rainspots glided through the water almost perfectly silently, darting forward when they were in position and chasing off after another that darted away.

Dreampoppy darted through the water after a fish that split off from the group. When it swam upward, she followed, just barely missing it before resurfacing. She sucked in a breath and shivered. The water felt like slush. "It's freezing," she yelped and dove back under, searching around for Rainspots.

"We can walk on the ice that's formed." Dreampoppy turned her head towards the water. She padded closer, tentatively reaching out a paw to try and find the ice. "Can you help me? Ice has a subtle smell difference, but I can't pick it up over the snow."

Rainspots nuzzled her cheek comfortingly, even with the fish in his mouth, leading her stride a few pawsteps to their left and stepping out on to the ice. “It seems solid,” he managed to mumble.
